Teratology is the study of perceived abnormalities in the natural world, both real and imagined. A prodigy was a wondrous event or being which stemmed, in most cases, from a misperception, or creative interpretation of an actually occurring phenomenon.

This section examines the evolution of teratology through the eyes of physicians, scholars and philosophers.  How have they considered and how have they interwined different interpretations in their representations and explanations of wonders from Antiquity to the end of the 19th century?
